Cancelling as a consumer
If you buy PEBL kit for yourself, the law gives you time to change your mind. This page explains how that works and what to do. It forms part of our Terms of Sale.
Effective date: 8 October 2026
Who this page is for
This page is for you if you are an individual buying kit wholly or mainly for your own use, rather than for a trade, business or profession. A diver or a volunteer paying with their own money is a typical example.
If you are buying for an organisation, such as a business, university, public body or charity, this page does not apply to you. Our returns offer for organisations is in section 7 of the Terms of Sale.
We build most kit after you order it. That does not take away your right to cancel. Standard kit from our price list, including every SubCam and GrowProbe version, can be cancelled like anything else. The right does not cover kit we design or adapt specially for you at your request, and if an order of yours would fall into that category, we will tell you before you place it.
Withdrawing an order before we confirm it
Sending us an order does not tie you in. Until we email you to confirm it, you can withdraw your order at any time and for any reason. Just let us know using any of the contact details below. There is nothing to pay before we confirm.
Your 14 days to cancel
Once we have confirmed your order, you can still cancel it, and you do not have to tell us why.
- You can cancel as soon as we confirm, even before the kit arrives.
- Your 14 days are counted from the day the kit reaches you, or reaches someone you have asked to receive it for you (but not the courier). For example, if your kit is delivered on 3 November, you can cancel up to the end of 17 November.
- If one order arrives in several parts on different days, the 14 days are counted from the day the last part arrives.
How to cancel
- Tell us clearly that you want to cancel. You can:
- email hello@pebl-cic.co.uk;
- write to Plant Ecology Beyond Land (PEBL) CIC, 29 Glan Yr Afon Road, Sketty, Swansea, SA2 9JA, United Kingdom; or
- phone us on 07905 672766.
- Send your message before your 14 days are up. It counts as long as you send it in time, even if it reaches us after the 14 days have ended.
- We will reply to confirm we have your cancellation, and give you the address to send the kit back to.
If you cancel by phone, a short follow-up email gives both of us a written record.
Using the official model form
The government publishes a model cancellation form. You are welcome to use it, but you do not have to. Any clear message works just as well.
- The model cancellation form on legislation.gov.uk (it is Part B of Schedule 3)
- The same form as a PDF
If you write your own message, include:
- your name and address;
- your order reference, if you have one;
- the item or items you are cancelling;
- the date you ordered, or the date the kit arrived;
- a plain statement that you are cancelling;
- the date of your message; and
- your signature, but only if you are sending it on paper.
Getting your money back
- We refund everything you paid us for the order, including the cost of standard delivery.
- We do not charge you anything for making the refund.
- We pay you back the same way you paid us, which is usually by bank transfer to the account you paid from, unless you agree to something different.
- If we have already sent the kit, we refund you within 14 days of whichever happens first: we get the kit back, or you show us that you have sent it, for example with a proof of postage or a tracking number. We may wait for one of those before we pay.
- If we have not sent the kit yet, we refund you within 14 days of the day you tell us you are cancelling, and we do not send it.
Sending the kit back
- Send the kit back to us within 14 days of the day you told us you were cancelling.
- We do not collect kit, so you arrange the return and pay what it costs to send it back to us.
- Pack it carefully and use a tracked, insured service. Keep your proof of sending, because it also starts the clock on your refund.
Handling the kit while you decide
You can unpack and examine the kit as you could in a shop, to see what it is, look at its features and check that it works. You do not need to keep it unused or in its original packaging.
If you handle or use it beyond that, and it loses value as a result, we may take that loss in value off your refund. Deploying kit at sea, for example, would usually go further than checking it.
If your kit is faulty
Cancelling is for when you change your mind. If your kit is faulty or not as described, you have separate rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and our Warranty adds to them. Tell us about the fault and we will put it right. Section 8 of the Terms of Sale explains how.
The law behind this page
Your right to cancel comes from the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. This page explains that right in plain English, and nothing on it reduces your rights under those Regulations.
