Disposal and recycling
PEBL kit is electronic equipment with a built-in battery, so please do not put it in general waste at the end of its life. There are three good options, in order of preference.
1. Repair first
We would always rather repair kit and keep it in service than see it replaced. If something stops working, talk to us about repair or refurbishment before you retire it. The Warranty page has the contact details for a fault.
2. Send it back to us
We offer free take-back of end-of-life PEBL kit, including the battery. Email hello@pebl-cic.co.uk and we will give you a return address and instructions. We will reuse, recycle or dispose of it responsibly.
3. Recycle it locally
If you would rather recycle locally, treat the kit as electrical waste (WEEE), not general waste. Most local-authority recycling centres accept small electrical items. The crossed-out wheelie-bin symbol on electrical equipment is the reminder that it must not go in the general rubbish.
The battery
The SubCam contains a built-in lithium-ion battery (six 18650 cells). It is not user-replaceable: the housing is sealed, and opening it breaks the tamper seals and the waterproofing. For a battery replacement, or to dispose of a battery, return the whole unit to us.
Lithium batteries must never go in general waste or household recycling. They are a fire risk if crushed or punctured, and they contain materials worth recovering. Return the unit to us, or take it to a battery-recycling point.
Returning kit by post
Lithium batteries are restricted in transit, so a unit with its battery cannot simply be posted in the normal way. If you are returning a unit for repair, warranty or recycling, contact us first and we will give you the correct packaging and carrier method.
